Can you sit the LNAT from India?
Yes. The LNAT is available at Pearson VUE test centres across India, including in major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata. As an LNAT India applicant, you register through the official LNAT website and book your test at your nearest Pearson VUE centre.
The test experience is identical to sitting it in the UK – same format, same timing, same scoring. Your score is reported directly to the universities you apply to through UCAS.
Registration dates for 2026 applicants
LNAT registration opens on 1st August each year. Key deadlines for Indian applicants are the same as for UK applicants – if you are applying to Oxford, you must sit the LNAT by 15th October. For all other LNAT universities, the deadline is 20th January.
Register and book your test date early. Pearson VUE centres can fill up in major cities, particularly in September and October when demand is highest.
What score do Indian applicants need?
The same benchmarks apply regardless of where you are from. Oxford typically looks for 28 or above, UCL for 26 or above, and Durham for around 25. There is no separate threshold for international applicants – you are competing in the same pool as UK students.
This is why strong preparation matters so much. The difference between a score of 22 and a score of 27 is almost entirely down to how much structured practice you have done.
The challenge of preparing from India
The biggest challenge for LNAT India applicants is access to high-quality practice materials that reflect the real exam difficulty. The two official practice papers on the LNAT website are useful but limited – they do not capture the full range of passage types or the difficulty of the real exam.
Many Indian students also underestimate the essay section, focusing all their preparation on the multiple choice and writing very few practice essays.
How to prepare effectively
Start with a free LNAT practice paper to establish your baseline. Then build a structured preparation plan using full-length LNAT practice tests that replicate real exam conditions. Practice both sections – do not neglect the essay.
Aim for at least 6-8 weeks of regular practice. Two to three hours per week is enough if that time is focused and includes reviewing your answers carefully after each session.
